Acclaimed rock band picks up ninth career RIAA Gold certification as it readies for the launch of “Move”:
The album “Revelation” was launched with a performance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, a Billboard cover feature and an American Music Award trophy. In addition, the album yielded two GRAMMY nominations in song categories plus the live version of the album, Live Revelations: On Stage, Off Stage, Backstage, also certified Gold, took home a GRAMMY for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album earlier this year.
The announcement caps a productive summer for the band, as the four-man rock unit finished production, alongside producer Paul Moak, on its upcoming 11th studio release MOVE, set to release on October 19.
“Lift Up Your Face,” the anticipated album’s first radio single, showcases the unmistakable vocals of The Blind Boys of Alabama. The song is not only poignant but is proving its potency as well. Already a multi-format smash, “Lift Up Your Face” is garnering undeniable attention on both the AC and CHR charts with 91 stations spinning by its Aug. 13 add date and touting the most increased spins the weeks of Aug. 9th and Aug. 16th.
Already No. 12 at CHR and No. 15 at AC Monitored, the song is seeing more than 3.5 million weekly impressions and is well on its way to reaching the benchmark set by the band’s previous 27 No. 1 singles. “Lift Up Your Face” is a song of encouragement, and beyond the early radio success, it is a small taste of an album that was written to provide hope for those in the midst of desperate times such as these.
Third Day will finish the summer and enter fall performing at select major festivals throughout the country, leading to the start of the World Vision/AEG Live-sponsored “Make A Difference Tour 2010.” The tour, which also features Michael W. Smith, tobyMac and New York Times best-selling author Max Lucado, launches September 30, and will hit arenas in 20 cities through the end of October. The record is the first from the band since the departure of longtime drummer Aaron Gillespie. The band worked with producers Matt Goldman (Lost In the Sound of Separation and Define the Great Line) and Jeremy SH Griffith.
Since change is the only constant with Underoath. Their fifth album, ‘Ø (Disambiguation),’ is due out via Solid State/Tooth & Nail on Nov. 9, and it marks the first album featuring new drummer Daniel Davison, late of Norma Jean. The band is said to have experienced an artistic rebirth with the new record, and it’s one their legion of fans are stoked to witness, share and experience.
They also content, rather steadfastly, that the departure of drummer/singer Aaron Gillespie has not and will not affect their forward progress.
Vocalist Spencer Chamberlain calls out the song ‘Paper Lung’ as his favorite on the album, saying, “For me, it has a classic Deftones feel. It’s still dark and heavy, but there’s a melody driving it. Big choruses, guitars, quirky keyboard touches. I love it.” Other track titles include ‘Vacant Mouth,’ ‘Reversal,’ Illuminator’ and ‘Who Will Guard the Guardians.’
In a statement, guitarist Tim McTague calls attention to the fact that the record isn’t overly polished or perfect, saying, “When we felt the record taking shape, we sat with it for awhile. We looked at the songs and our past releases and compared the production. We weren’t looking to go down the same road. Our last couple of records were super-produced and edited. This record feels more natural because it’s a lot more sequential whereas our last record was more piece by piece. It’s a lot closer to our live experience rather than a flawless, computerized project.”
Chamberlain also said, “I’d say to fans that you may have heard Underoath, but you’ve never heard Underoath like this. There isn’t a single part on this record that we would change.” Those are big words, and fans will find out how ‘Ø (Disambiguation)’ stacks up to the band’s confidence.
